After the Fall... is a tale that takes place almost two years after John and Marlena were married. Following the revelation of what happened in the hours John was missing during the honeymoon, their once idyllic marriage relationship quickly disintegrated. Deeply troubled by his own misguided choices and the resulting disastrous consequences to himself and everyone he loved, John sought solace in self-destructive ways, often numbing his pain with alcohol. His downward spiral continued to the point at which he found himself returning to his former life of crime with Stefano Dimera. The story begins with John incarcerated and Marlena contemplating her future without him.
